Is Semi-Permanent Makeup Right for You?

Women’s cosmetics trends can change from year to year, or even season to season. Last season’s metallic lipsticks and glittery eyeliners give way to matte looks and neutral tones. It can be hard to keep up. But with changes happening all the time, is semi-permanent makeup a good idea? Here’s what we found out.

What is Semi-Permanent Makeup?

Semi-permanent makeup is the term used to describe a tattooing procedure which uses ultra fine needles to deposit pigment into only the top layers of the skin. Unlike traditional tattooing, semi-permanent makeup is designed to fade over time, typically anywhere from a few months to a few years.

The pigments used tend to be naturally derived and are designed to fade true to color. So, unlike a traditional tattoo going from black to blue over time, black semi-permanent makeup would remain black, but simply become harder to notice.

The procedure should be done in a sterile environment, using a new needle every time. Depending on the type of makeup you are getting, the procedure may last anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours or more. There is no downtime required after the procedure, as there will only be some slight swelling or scabbing.

After the initial appointment, a reevaluation and touch-up usually happens a few weeks later to make sure you have exactly the color and look you want.

What Types Are Available?

The most popular type of semi-permanent makeup, and the one currently getting a lot of press is called microblading. This refers to the process of tattooing what appear to be individual eyebrow hairs to create a more defined arch, and to even out sparse hair growth. Many women opt for this procedure to help correct problems caused by over-tweezing or over-waxing, and to simply avoid having to pencil in their brows every day.

Eyeliner is also available as a semi-permanent makeup option. Eyeliner tattoos have come a long way from where they were just a decade or two ago. Rather than adding permanent, heavy black lines around the eyes, a wider variety of pigments is available, and the tattoos will fade over time.

Lip liner or full lip coloring is also available as semi-permanent makeup. Women who would like fuller looking, more defined lips sometimes opt for this procedure, as it’s less hassle than trying to trace out their desired shape every day, or to continually reapply lipstick as it fades.

Is it Dangerous?

Any tattoo procedure carries a small inherent risk of infection. This can be minimized by having your procedure performed at a clean and reputable facility.

There are some contraindications for semi-permanent makeup, including pregnancy and nursing. Other conditions which may cause complications include high blood pressure, certain skin conditions, keloid scarring, sun damage, and certain medications. Be sure to thoroughly read any instructions given to you prior to your procedure, as there are some requirements which must be followed far in advance of your procedure (ex. No waxing for 3 weeks prior, no Aspirin for 3 days prior, etc.)

There is also a small risk of an allergic reaction to the pigment. Speak to your technician about the types of pigment used, and compare the ingredients to any known allergies you may have. If an allergic reaction does occur, it is recommended that you seek immediate medical attention.

The decision to get semi-permanent makeup is a personal one. Just be sure that you feel comfortable with the facility, that the procedure will take place in a clean and sterile environment, and that you have carefully followed all pre-procedure instructions. This will help you get the best possible outcome.

The 1st thing that got me interested in Capsiplex was the fact that it was all natural and that there was no side effect. It actually works. After trying for 3 weeks and losing 3 pounds I have just ordered 3 more bottles! Hope that the weight loss continues.

I would most definitely recommend this to anyone trying to lose weight! Since I started using this supplement I’ve been losing about 3 lbs per week average. I’m however going to the gym to speed up the process but all in all ….I’m happy.

I’ll have tons of energy, go for miles of walks and actually went up to sprinting. After weeks I got slimmer and trimmer. (I am now maintaining my weight). I am pleased to say it has no side effect whatsoever, best of all IT’S ONCE A DAY. That fits in well with my 12hr shift.
